The Summer School on Reunification is an interdisciplinary summer school encompassing various different topics ranging from politics, history and demographic changes to economic systems, secret police, gender relations and language/linguistic aspects. Target group are students and young scholars in the relevant fields, and or focusing on the topics of reunification / (North) Korean Studies. The goal of this summer school is to address the theme of unification processes in Korea by way of analysing unification processes in Germany - and other countries that underwent comparable processes. The cultural aspect of encounter between Germany and Korea within the framework of European unification should enable the participants to get information and tools at hand that would enable them to analyse the respective historical and political situation. The idea is to enhance the typical discussion and not to restrict the discussion to political and economic aspects but open it to all relevant fields.

Never have more people lived under democratic rule than today. Even Asia -- or perhaps typically Asia -- has been a place to observe regime transformations. Following Japan (1946) and India (1947), a host of other countries pushed their way into the democratic camp. The transitions, however, have not in every case been crowned with success. Regression to authoritarianism has been just as observable as the establishment of – according to your point of view – semi-democratic or semi-authoritarian governments. Nevertheless, the general trend toward democracy seems to be unavoidable.

The interdisciplinarily organized workshop was designed around both, the comparison of the transformation from authoritarian to democratic leadership in the previous GDR (in the course of the reunification) with that in the Republic of Korea, as well as to the challenges to which Germany (and Europe) and South Korea, with regard to their political and socio-political orders, see themselves subjected.

Das „Bonner/Rostocker Doktoranden- und Habilitanden-Kolloquium“ ist ein jährlich stattfindender Workshop, auf dem laufende Qualifikationsarbeiten zur Neuesten Geschichte und zur Zeitgeschichte vorgestellt und diskutiert werden. Die Veranstaltung wird gemeinsam von Prof. Dr. Stefan Creuzberger, Universität Rostock, und Prof. Dr. Dominik Geppert, Universität Bonn, geleitet.

Derzeit wirft die Geschichtswissenschaft mit Hilfe verschiedener Historikerkommissionen einen zweiten Blick auf die personellen und institutionellen Kontinuitäten und Brüche im Nachkriegsdeutschland. Das 28. Rhöndorfer Gespräch will unter der Leitung von Prof. Dr. Stefan Creuzberger (Universität Rostock) und Prof. Dr. Dominik Geppert (Universität Bonn) am Beispiel von vier zentralen Bereichen staatlichen Handelns (Justiz, Wirtschaft, Sicherheit und Inneres) eine erste Zwischenbilanz dieser Forschungen ziehen und dabei über den empirischen Befund personeller Kontinuitäten und Diskontinuitäten hinaus danach fragen, in welcher Form die Erfahrung des Bruchs bzw. des Neuanfangs gedanklich verarbeitet und politisch umgesetzt wurde.
