Dass die deutsche Zeitgeschichtsforschung die asymmetrisch verflochtenen und parallelen Ent­wicklungen der Bundesrepublik und DDR gemeinsam in den Blick nehmen soll, ist eine Forderung, die seit den 1990er-Jahren immer wiederkehrt. Differenzierte, breit verständlich geschriebene blockübergreifende Studien sind nach wie vor selten. Eine von den Veranstal­tungs­organisatoren konzipierte und ab 2019 beim Berliner be.bra-Verlag erscheinende Buch­rei­he soll diese Lücke schließen und zugleich an aktuelle Forschungstrends anknüpfen. Die Herausgeber knüpfen an die Ergebnisse eines von ihnen 2017 im Deutschen Historischen Institut London organisierten Workshop an und setzen die Debatte mit den an dem Publikationsprojekt beteiligten Wissenschaftlern fort. Im Rahmen der Veran­stal­tung präsentieren acht der insgesamt 17 Autorinnen und Autoren diesmal in Potsdam ihre Forschungsvorhaben.

The Summer School on Reunification is an interdisciplinary summer school encompassing various different topics ranging from politics, history and demographic changes to economic systems, secret police, gender relations and language/linguistic aspects. Target group are students and young scholars in the relevant fields, and or focusing on the topics of reunification / (North) Korean Studies. The goal of this summer school is to address the theme of unification processes in Korea by way of analysing unification processes in Germany - and other countries that underwent comparable processes. The cultural aspect of encounter between Germany and Korea within the framework of European unification should enable the participants to get information and tools at hand that would enable them to analyse the respective historical and political situation. The idea is to enhance the typical discussion and not to restrict the discussion to political and economic aspects but open it to all relevant fields.
